My motivation for producing fine art comes from a sincere desire to depict positive Black Art. I choose to concentrate on the accomplishments and contributions of Black men and women who realized their dreams and achieved their goals on their own merit. All too often the ugliness of the Black experience in America is portrayed and exploited in the media and in art. My goal is not to deny this but to focus on the positives of the Black experience: the unrecorded or forgotten past, the pride of our present, and our vision for the future.
"Her Name is Lyric" was the first time I told a story in one of my paintings. In this representation, you find a traditional African musical trio. It represents Black Heritage. The black and white keyboard suggests European influence and design. The composite image allows the trio to flow through the keyboard to Lyric - a beautiful young girl influenced by both and proud of her African American culture.
"My Pet -- Our Food", "They Went to Europe", "The Settlers", and "Faith" are other paintings in my repertoire that tell stories of hope throughout the Black experience.
